Nearly $8 million raised since the first Gala event

Back in 1989, several people from the area attended a National Catholic School convention in Chicago. At the convention they listened as officials from two schools gave presentations on raising money for their schools through Gala type events featuring dinners and auctions.

KRHC will welcome new surgeon in May

ALGONA—Kossuth Regional Health Center will welcome Dr. Ricardo (Ric) Young, a general surgeon, to its staff in May. Young comes to Algona from a critical access hospital in rural Indiana.

Any fool knows, women get things done

The 19th annual Women’s Networking event was held at the Columbia Events Center last Monday, April 1. The theme for this year’s event was Any Fool Knows, Women Get Things Done.

Panelists were Shelly Brown, Kris Schlievert, Bernie Merrill and Mandie Studer. Shelly Brown received the Women’s Achievement award.

Bank growth reported at annual meeting

Shareholders of Mid-Iowa Bancshares Co., the holding company of Iowa State Bank, received a message of strength and growth at their annual meeting held on Tuesday, March 19. The holding company reported that Iowa State Bank had a 10% increase in assets in 2023 with total assets now exceeding $475 million.

Farm Bureau leaders meet with lawmakers

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Two dozen Iowa Farm Bureau members representing 18 counties met with Iowa’s congressional delegation last week in Washington, D.C. to discuss policy issues important to the sustainability of their family farms.

Windy Easter egg hunt fun in Lone Rock

The sun was shining but it was windy for the Easter egg hunt at the park in Lone Rock Saturday morning, March 30. After the hunt, the children were awarded kite prizes and refreshments were served.

The Saturday event was sponsored by the Lone Rock Community Club.

All ages help make noodles in West Bend

A noodle workshop was held on Saturday at the West Bend Public Library. Each participant made two batches of noodles, one batch they could take home and one batch went toward the soup for the library soup fundraiser held yesterday, April 3 at the community center in West Bend.
