AHS boys finish 8th at Spencer Invitational

SPENCER—Algona finished in eighth place in a tough 15-team field at the annual Spencer Invitational played at the Spencer Golf & Country Club on Monday, April 15.

The red-and-black had a team total of 333 during the day as Carroll Kuemper won the team title with a score of 311, three strokes better than the Humboldt Wildcats.

Josh Matheson of Emmetsburg had the low score of the day with a one over-par 73 while Carson Sleiter of Humboldt was next with a 74.

WB-M girls are runner-ups at East Sac County

LAKE VIEW—West Bend-Mallard won three events and took second in six more at the Raider Relays held on Friday, April 12.

The purple-and-gold girls amassed 109 points during the 19 events that was only topped by Ridge View’s score of 143 points in the nine-team field.

Algona 2nd, North Union 5th at Lady Bison Relays

BUFFALO CENTER—Algona finished in second place and North Union was fifth at the Lady Bison Relays held on Thursday, April 11.

The red-and-black won seven events and was edged for the team title by one point, 203-202 by the Forest City Indians. The Warriors finished in fifth with 64 team points.

Three area boys’ teams compete at Dick Barrett Relays

ESTHERVILLE—A trio of area boys track teams participated on Friday, April 12 in the longest running track meet in the state during the 102nd running of the Dick Barrett Relays.

A total of 14 teams competed in the one class meet as Algona placed third with 99 points; Bishop Garrigan was seventh with 27 points and North Union ended up in 12th place with nine team points.

Grimm 3rd in high hurdles for WB-M

LAKE VIEW—Logan Grimm placed third in the 110-meter high hurdles to highlight the performances of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines at the Raider Relays on Friday, April 12.

The purple-and-gold scored 12 points to finish in 11th place in the team standings as Westwood (Sloan) won the team title with a team total of 122 points.

North Union boys compete at Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE— The North Union boys track team competed at the Spirit Lake Invitational on Tuesday, April 9 as the squad finished in seventh place with a team score of 26 points.

The green-black-and-silver had one gold medal winner during the meet as senior Colin Rasch won the shot put with his heave of 50’ 1¾”.

Brooks places second at Estherville Tournament

ESTHERVILLE—Abby Brooks finished in second place overall to highlight the performances of the Algona Bulldog girls golf squad at the Estherville Invitational played at the Estherville Golf & Country Club on Monday, April 15.

The red-and-black ended up in fifth place in the team standings with a team score of 432 as Spencer took home first place with a team total of 378.

Bulldog girls top NU, WB-M in season opener

BANCROFT—Algona opened their season on Tuesday, April 9 at the North Kossuth Golf Club as the red-and-black rolled past West Bend-Mallard and North Union in a non-conference triangular match of three area girls golf squads.

The Bulldogs compiled a team score of 202 to easily top West Bend-Mallard’s total of 252 and North Union took third place with a score of 263.

WB-M golf teams host East Sac County

WEST BEND—Playing in some tough conditions, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine boys and girls golf teams hosted East Sac County on Thursday, April 11.

The teams battled strong windy conditions, some rain and even a little hail. The visitors won the boys match by the final score of 185-194.

Zach Jacobson of East Sac County was the medalist of the meet with a nine-hole score of 43 while teammate Brady Burns took home the runner-up medal with a score of 44.
