Lead Summary

Sept. 9, 1939 — Aug. 9, 2018
ALGONA — A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona. Visitation was held, 4-7 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.
Donna Marie (Wood) Broesder was born on Sept. 9, 1939, in Humboldt County, the daughter of Leo and Esther (Hauck) Wood. She grew up in Whittemore, graduating from Whittemore High School in 1957.
On March 2, 1958, she married Evert H. Broesder at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona, where they have been members ever since. While raising their three children, Donna was very involved with the family farm. On any given day she could be found milking dairy cows, feeding calves, driving tractors, butchering chickens and even unloading hay. In the early years of their marriage Donna and Evert enjoyed card club and square dancing. Donna always wore the most beautiful dresses and Evert always had a shirt to match. The family looked forward to the fried chicken meal she made every Sunday, homemade ice cream on birthdays and an amazing assortment of Christmas candies and cookies during the holidays. When their older children reached high school age, Donna decided to work in town and was employed at Snap-On for 27 years. After she retired, she enjoyed her part-time job at Classic Stop where she could see and visit with many people. Donna and Evert were members of the Izaak Walton League where she served as the secretary for a number of years.
Above all else, Donna was happiest being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and was very involved in their activities. She also enjoyed shopping for clothes, gardening, canning, baking desserts and quilting.
She made a lasting impression on those she met. Donna was known to be outspoken and always shared what was on her mind. She never complained and when asked how she was doing, would always say, "I'm just fine."
