IRVINGTON — Daryl Gaedke, age 82, of Irvington passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the Algona Manor Care Center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona with Rev. Eric Hauan officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Irvington. Visitation was 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at the Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.
Daryl Gene Gaedke, the son of Louis and Elnora (Fritz) Gaedke, was born on Aug. 15, 1935, in Parkers Prairie, Minn. His family moved to Iowa in 1947, where his Dad farmed. Daryl was confirmed in 1948, at the old Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. On Oct. 20, 1956, Daryl married Geraldine Witham in Estherville. They moved to Algona in 1957, where they resided until his death. Daryl farmed all of his life, retiring in 2013. He loved working at the race track. In his spare time he enjoyed road farming, fishing and sitting at the picnic table watching the cars drive by. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Left to cherish Daryl’s memory is his wife of 61 years, Geraldine; three children, Alan (Cindy) Gaedke of Algona, Linda (Jason) Henning of Carrboro, N.C., and Deb Gaedke of Des Moines; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
His infant daughters, Jean and Joan; his parents; and three brothers, Lyle, Louis Jr. and Wayne Gaedke; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Gaedke, preceded him in death.
