Donald Gordon Krause, (Don), of Iowa City, completed his life’s long journey and entered eternal life on May 29, 2018, in Dallas, Texas after a short illness at 90 years young. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Katherine Krause and his wife Joyce.
He is survived by his sister, Faye Jones and husband Glenn Jones of Algona; his four children, Debra Donn Krause (Los Angeles,) Randy and Vicki Krause (Atlanta,) Turk Elijah Krause and wife, Molly (Cedar Falls.) Mary Mease Wilson and husband, James (Dallas) and step-daughter Lori Bohardt and husband, Andy (Ohio) and step-daughter Beth Conway and husband, Tim (Colorado.)
Don leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grand children. Don was first and foremost a family man, who treasured his extended family and did his best to keep up with their many activities and achievements.
Upon graduation from Algona High School, Don enlisted in the Army. After a short deployment to Korea, he returned home to Algona and married Beverly Ann Stebritz. They farmed in Ledyard,  and raised a family. The farm was sold in 1960 and the family relocated to Algona where Don began working with Walnut Grove. The family was eventually relocated to Iowa Falls and then on to
Cedar Rapids where Don began a long and successful career as a swine consultant for Carl Akey & Sons. Don married Joyce Nelson on Aug. 4, 1973. Don and Joyce moved to Indiana and then Ohio as he continued his long-term association with Carl Akey & Sons.
Retirement brought Don and Joyce back to the Amanas and then Iowa City in 1979. Don and Joyce were avid fans of Iowa Hawkeye sports teams and were men’s and women’s season ticket holders for basketball and football for decades.
They were long-term members of the I-Club. Don rarely missed the weekly Quarter Back Club meetings. They also enjoyed trips to Alaska and trips to see relatives and friends throughout the United State until Joyce passed away on Jan. 7, 2016, in Iowa City.
Don’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Ceremony at 10 a.m., on Thursday, June 21at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Melrose Meadows, The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and Windmill Manor in Iowa City.
We are also grateful to Legend Oaks and Bristow Hospice staff for their assistance during the final days of our father’s life.
