Dorothy Arlene Sheirbon was born June 25, 1927, in rural Ledyard, to Ivan and Jessie (Holding) Long. Her family moved to Algona where she graduated from Algona High School. She worked at a drug store where she met her future husband, Francis “Slim” Sheirbon. They married on March 27, 1948, and farmed near West Bend briefly before moving to Burt. Dorothy was a stay-at-home mother for their seven children until their youngest went off to school. She then began working for North Iowa Community Action until retiring in 1995.
Dorothy enjoyed crossword puzzles, solitaire, sewing, gardening, canning, and reading to her children and grandchildren. She also loved spending time with her family and baking, especially homemade bread and pies. She was a long-time member of the Burt Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and attended Women’s Circle.
Dorothy died on Monday, May 21, 2018, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona at the age of 90.    
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Pat and husband Jerry Sill of Sullivan, Mo. daughter, Connie and husband Dick Nervig of Bella Vista, Ariz.; son, Tim and wife Lisa of Ogden; son, Gary Sheirbon of Burt; son, Terry Sheirbon of Burt; daughter, Judy and husband Kevin Ramsell of Phoenix, Ariz., and daughter, Becky Person of Burt; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister Harriet Ward; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Slim; parents; grandson Matthew Nervig; four brothers and two sisters.  
A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Burt Presbyterian Church. Burial was held at East Lawn Cemetery in Algona. Online Condolences may be left at www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com.
