TITONKA — Roger was born to Ross and Elna (Christensen) Buffington on Sept. 1, 1933, in rural Titonka. He attended Doan Country School and graduated from Titonka High School in 1951. He entered the Army in the fall of 1953 and served in the Korean War.
Roger married his high school sweetheart, Rita Miller on April 25, 1954, Doan Methodist Church in rural Titonka. They had four children. He farmed and raised hogs in the Doan Community area south of Titonka.
He was a member of the Kossuth County Pork Producers, Legion and VFW lifetime member, Doan Church where he was very active serving as the Sunday school superintendent, teacher, and chair of the board. Roger helped establish the MARK FUND Medical Assistance for rural Kossuth for farmers during the 80’s.
Roger enjoyed camping, fishing, reading his bible, spending time with family, flowers, and gardening. He enjoyed his years of retirement traveling with his wife in their fifth wheel and spending their winters in Gulf Shores Alabama.
Roger Phillip Buffington, 84, of Algona, formerly of Titonka, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center with his family by his side.
Roger is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita; daughters, Sue (Ed) Carlson of Britt, Karen (Dan) Larsen of Burt, and Linda Buffington of Algona; grandchildren, Jessica (Adam) Otto, Darin Carlson, Jake (Brittany) Carlson, Casey Carlson, Erin (Jeff) Edlund, Allen Larsen, Billy (Alisa) Simmons, Nathan Simmons; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Elna Buffington; and son, Phillip Roger Buffington; three brothers, Arther, Donald, and Ilo; in-laws, John and Grace Miller.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial took place at Buffalo Township Cemetery in Titonka.
