John “Jack” Hardgrove, age 67, of Livermore and formerly of Algona passed away on April 16, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City. Memorial services were held on Friday April 20, at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona, with Rev. Dick Tappe officiating.
 
   John Vernell Hardgrove, the son of John and Ada (Schwietert) Hardgrove, was born on Oct. 16, 1950, in Algona. He graduated from Algona High School in 1968, and attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. On Sept. 11, 1994, Jack married Deborah Diane at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Jack had worked as a mechanic at Universal Manufacturing in Algona. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, driving a race car in Algona in his younger years, watching NASCAR, and following Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr.
 
   Left to cherish Jack’s memory is his wife of 23 years, Deborah; two sons, Jeremy Hardgrove of Clarksville, Texas, and John Hardgrove of Humboldt; step-children, Sharnell (Don) Jobe of Pocahontas, Matt Becker of Wesley and Tony (Jordann) Becker of Emmetsburg; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis (Dick) Tappe of Sioux Falls, S.D.
His parents and three sisters, Peggy Hilbert, Barbara Schattschneider and Kay Finnegan, preceded him in death.
