NU girls capture conference title

In a league that featured four rated teams all year long, the North Union Warrior girls’ basketball clinched first place and a conference championship with a 72-25 Top of Iowa Conference victory over the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in a game played at Armstrong on Friday, Feb. 2.
The green-black-and-silver finished the league schedule with a sparkling 15-1 mark with its only loss coming to No. 13 (Class 3A) Forest City by four points and also had two wins over No. 6 (Class 1A)West Hancock and No. 14 (Class 1A) Bishop Garrigan in taking the league title.
The home team jumped out to a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and used a 13-1 run to blow the game open.  The green-black-and-silver started the second frame with the first six points to extend the advantage to 28-10 and took a commanding 42-18 lead into the locker room at intermission.
