BGHS girls get back on winning track

Lead Summary

After dropping three straight close games to teams with combined records of 31-7, including two in overtime, the 12th-ranked Bishop Garrigan Golden Bear girls’ basketball squad got back on the winning track with a 75-37 Top of Iowa Conference win over the Belmond-Klemme Broncos.
The teams traded the first 12 points of the contest before the home team went on a 10-0 run to finish the first quarter with a 16-6 advantage.  The Broncos scored the first basket of the second frame before the black-and-gold answered with a 9-0 run, spurred by the play of Alisa Altman.
The visitors sank a pair of foul shots with 4:10 remaining in the first half but the Golden Bears responded with a 5-0 run, including the first points of the season by Caitlin Thilges to make the score 30-10 with 3:15 left in the first half.
