SPENCER—Every year, Algona High School participates in solo and small group ensemble contest towards the end of the year. In this, either a soloist or a group of musicians sing or play an instrument together, along with a piano accompanist.

Model U.N. Spring Conference

CEDAR FALLS—Algona High School Model U.N. students traveled to the University of Northern Iowa on March 30 and 31. The university hosted the 2023 Iowa High School Model United Nations, where students from across the state came together to discuss their topics.

The Noon Kiwanis recently honored the March and April Students of the Month.

Jorgenson joins staff at KHRC

ALGONA—Kossuth Regional Health Center has welcomed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Peter Jorgenson to the team.

Jorgenson began providing behavioral health services to patients at the Algona Clinic in April.

his week is Volunteer Appreciation Week, the perfect time to recognize our amazing volunteers and highlight the many benefits of donating your time and skills! Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.

Donation of love and comfort in Burt

Fun night of trivia in Titonka draws big crowd

The Titonka Quasqui Committee organized a trivia event and generously donated the proceeds to the library.

Maddie Post hosted and came up with questions. The Bancroft Fire Dept worked the bar and donated their tips to the library.  Karen Post obtained a grant from Thrivent that was used to purchase food.  The Titonka Food Center donated ground beef and the Library Board made desserts, served food, set-up and cleaned up. Top photo: The Titonka Library hosted David Bergstrom who gave a presentation that covered 2,000 years of the Bibles Old Testament history in one hour. A retired Lutheran pastor and Titonka resident, Bergstrom brings a wealth of knowledge to the topic. He provided crucial historical context to events that are key to understanding the Judeo-Christian tradition. The event was free and open to everyone.

The art of wood carving at the Titonka Library

TITONKA—On April 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. the North Iowa Woodcarvers are hosting an event at the Titonka Library.

Keith Goetz and others from the North Iowa Woodcarvers Guild will give an informational presentation on the different tools, styles and techniques of woodcarving.

Loop Yarn with Rachel

Get your creative juices flowing at the Titonka Library on Monday May 1 at 6 p.m. Learn how to make a scarf using just your fingers and special loop yarn.  The event is free, and you'll get to bring home a cozy scarf for next winter.

Ledyard farmer wins contest

LEDYARD—Ledyard farmer Scott Farrow was recently honored among the region’s highest-producing soybean farmers in the 2022 Asgrow® National Yield Contest. Farrow won the award with an impressive yield of 94 bushels per acre with Asgrow AG21XF0 Brand.

Kemna Auto Center, a leading automotive dealership, announces that several of its technicians have received the prestigious 2022 Mark of Excellence Award. This annual accolade is presented by General Motors (GM) to honor the most outstanding dealerships and technicians in the country.

It is worth noting that the three GM Fixed Operations-Service Technician awardees at Kemna Auto Center have a combined experience of more than 60 years in the industry.

All goes wrong

Every year Algona High School puts on a musical in the fall and a play in the spring. Last semester the theater department performed the musical Newsies, which was held in October. The musical was based on a rebellious newsboy who dreams of being an artist away from the big city.

TIME TO AUDITION

All Call Theatre Company will hold auditions for the summer production, Once Upon a Mattress, a musical comedy retelling of the classic tale, The Princess and the Pea!

The performance is a message about overcoming adversity and striving/succeeding in pursuing dreams. By the end of the show, the self-absorbed is defeated and everyone learns to love and grow with one another for a better future.
