Every year Algona High School puts on a musical in the fall and a play in the spring. Last semester the theater department performed the musical Newsies, which was held in October. The musical was based on a rebellious newsboy who dreams of being an artist away from the big city.

TIME TO AUDITION

All Call Theatre Company will hold auditions for the summer production, Once Upon a Mattress, a musical comedy retelling of the classic tale, The Princess and the Pea!

The performance is a message about overcoming adversity and striving/succeeding in pursuing dreams. By the end of the show, the self-absorbed is defeated and everyone learns to love and grow with one another for a better future.

DES MOINES-—Marijuana laws are changing across the country. What hasn’t changed are the legalities behind impaired driving. In Iowa, recreational consumption and possession of cannabis is illegal. On April 20, also known as ‘420’, there may be an increase in cannabis consumption. To help keep drug-impaired drivers off the road, the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is partnering with law enforcement to remind drivers; drug-impaired driving is dangerous and illegal.
