Debbie Berte earns honorable mention for photo

DES MOINES—Debbie Berte of Livermore received honorable mention for a photo she entered in the things and still life adult color photo division at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

Photographers from Maine to central Iowa submitted their best photographs to the 83rd Annual Photography Salon prior to the beginning of the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Giving multiplied with school supplies for children overseas

ALGONA—As the school year approaches, shoebox packers are making use of back-to-school prices to purchase gifts and essential items for children in need around the world. Residents in Algona​​ are collecting school supplies, pencils, crayons and notebooks, alongside personal care items and fun toys, to pack in shoeboxes. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, will deliver these gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 100 countries.

Support Veterans

The 2nd Annual Support Our Veterans Ride will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 9-10:30 a.m. with registration at Otto Field Post 415 in Livermore. Motors will rev and wheels will turn at 10:45 a.m. All types of vehicles are welcome. Stops for the ride will be in Humboldt, Fort Dodge, Manson, Rutland and Bode.

At some point in one’s care plan, it may be recommended to transition from actively treating or trying to cure a condition to making the person more comfortable. This is when hospice steps in.

Veterans will be thanked at Support Our Veterans Ride

LIVERMORE—Committee members say the community support has been amazing and they are expecting a great turnout for the 2nd Annual Support Our Veterans Ride on Saturday, August 19.

The ride for all vehicles will begin at the Livermore American Legion Otto Field Post 415. Sign-up will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m.  with motors set to rev and wheels will turn at 10:45 a.m.

First Sentral class reminisces

FENTON—The Sentral High School Class of 1958 celebrated their 65th reunion at the North Star Restaurant in Fenton on Friday, July 28. Fifteen class members and five guests attended from the class of 39 members.

Upon completion of a college degree from the University of Northern Iowa, my first teaching position was as a Title I Reading teacher at Bryant Elementary in Algona.

Why did you become a teacher?

I LOVED school! I was inspired by my third grade teacher.
