Iinvested countless hours in the sport of wrestling over my lifetime, and I use the word “invested,” as it provided many paybacks. I competed for more than a decade on the mat, and I coached for more than 25 years. Through the blood, sweat and tears, I learned to appreciate it all.

Bill would eliminate requirement to publish public notices in Iowa newspapers

A bill approved Wednesday by an Iowa Senate committee would create a new state website to publish public notices and eliminate a long-standing requirement for cities, schools and other entities to publish the notices in newspapers.

Terry McGuire will lead St. Pat’s parade

John T. “Terry” McGuire II of Algona will serve as the grand marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Algona on Friday, March 17.

A descendant of Irish heritage, his parents were John and Zelda McGuire. Terry rode in the parade with his sister, Marilyn “Midge” Andreasen, when she was the grand marshal. McGuire has owned and operated McGuire Cleaning Services in Algona for decades.

BGHS drama department presents Angel in the Night on March 17-18

ALGONA—Bishop Garrigan High School Drama Department will present the play, Angel in the Night, on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18 at 7 p.m.  in the Friedmann Auditorium at BGHS.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and Garrigan students will be admitted free of charge. There will be bleachers and floor seats available.

CWL kids ready for anything

The third and fourth grade classes at CWL in Lu Verne have enjoyed many different activities this year. They have explored the star lab, nature center and gone a winter survival trip through the woods. Veterans Coming Home is a bourbon developed by Lakota Hunting With Heroes and S&B Farms Distillery.

Pork producers donate ribeye pork chops to food pantry

The Kossuth County Pork Producers have donated $1,000 worth of ribeye pork chops to the Kossuth County Food Pantry in conjunction with the Pork in the Pantry program.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association will support county pork producer organizations in Iowa in their efforts to make pork donations to local food pantries.

Lainey Ann Boeckholt

Brice and Amanda (Winkel) Boeckholt of Algona announce the birth of their daughter, Lainey Ann, on February 27, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. Lainey weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Lainey is welcomed home by sisters Harper and Reese.

Maternal grandparents are Tom and Lori Winkel of Algona. Paternal grandmother is Marlene Boeckholt of  Burt.

Spend the first day of spring at the free seed exchange in Burt

BURT— Spend the first day of spring getting in the “spring spirit” at the 3rd annual Seed Exchange being held in Kossuth County.

The Seed Exchange will take place on Monday, March 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Burt Activity Complex. The event is being hosted by the Burt Public Library, ISU Extension and Outreach of Kossuth County and Kossuth County Master Gardeners. The event is free to attend and open to all who are interested.

Session for private well owners

ALGONA—The Kossuth County Extension office will host a free, one-hour learning session for private well owners in March. The program will help attendees understand their well’s water quality and connect them to resources to manage their well.
