Shane Lee Ballenger

Shane Ballenger, age 23, of Algona, died on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Evangelical Free Church in Algona, with Rev. Brock Youngren officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United States Marine Corps.

Shane Lee Ballenger, the son of Kyle Shane Ballenger and Neva Leininger, was born on Nov. 20, 1989 in Algona. He graduated from Algona High School in 2008. Shane enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on Jan. 21, 2009. He served for four years and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal on Jan. 20, 2013.

Shane was currently attending Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg to become a welder. He worked at Picray Welding and fabricating in Emmetsburg. Shane was a gamer and enjoyed working out, swimming, football and wrestling.

Left to cherish Shane’s memory are his parents: Kyle Ballenger of Waterloo, and Neva Owens and her husband, Brian, of Algona; grandmother: Sherry (Ballenger) Peter and her husband, Larry, of Algona; brothers: William Leininger of Algona; LCPL Jacob Anderson of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; and Dalton Lee Kron of Algona; two half-brothers, Bo and Kaleb Owens of Algona; a half-sister, Melody Owens of Algona; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Mary Leininger.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family and may be sent to Iowa State Bank, 5 East Call Street, Algona, Iowa 50511.
